Seminario Ceramics is a studio out of Cusco Peru founded in the early 80s by a husband and wife duo who were inspired by ancient Peruvian cultures. For a long time it was just the two of them working in isolation because of the turmoil happening in their country, but in the 90s they became big, were featured in the Smithsonian, and now their studio employs local craftsmen and offers classes as well. I became kind of obsessed when I discovered this mug a while back. I’m not quite as taken with their newer styles but I keep an eye out for the old stuff and it’s some of my favorite.
