But it’s difficult to make art with obvious organic elements that doesn’t inadvertently make nature feel like a cute kitschy concept — something out there that’s not connected to you or me, like a TV show.

This vase feels rooted in something timeless and real to me — its chic creamy color, the presence of the hand that crafted its imperfect shape. Its stacked seashells aren’t a replacement for a lost relationship with nature, but a sweet reminder of a real connection.
