Some of my favorite art is the kind that feels accessible enough to try for yourself. Of course you quickly realize you can’t, it requires more skill and vision than you hoped it would. But you also can’t replicate it because it was of a moment. Someone was present and grounded in their own abilities and perspective. It’s good because they did it then. But if they use a spiral notebook and a pencil, things we all have at home, it does remove some barriers between us and art. We can all color and doodle. We can write. We can take what’s in our head and put it on paper. Maybe we won’t put it in a frame. Maybe it won’t become a book. But something will happen. Who knows. We should try.
